Pennsylvania American Water Announces $1.4M in Chester County System Upgrades
Main replacements in Spring City Borough will improve water service for customers
Spring City, Pa. (April 28, 2022) – Pennsylvania American Water today announced the start of construction to replace water main in Chester County to improve reliability for customers, reduce service disruptions, and increase water flows for firefighting. The cost of the system improvements, which replace 2,000 feet of main dating back to the 1940s, is $1,400,000.
Starting on Sunday, May 1, Pennsylvania American Water contractors will begin replacing aging 6" cast iron pipe that was installed in the 1940s with new 8" ductile iron pipe, together with new copper water supply services for our customers in Spring City Borough. This work will take place on Bridge Street between N. Church Street and Glass Avenue. Crews will work weekdays 7 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday. Work will be completed by the end of August and final paving of the roadway is planned for completion this fall.
During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and/or lower than normal water pressure. These infrastructure upgrade projects are not only an important investment in public health and safety, but they also help support the economic health of the communities served by Pennsylvania American Water. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Through its continued investments, Pennsylvania American Water’s 2021 and 2022 infrastructure upgrade projects will support more than 3,700 jobs each year.
