Pennsylvania American Water Announces $1.1M in Montgomery County System Upgrades

Main replacements in Upper Providence Township and Royersford Borough to improve water service for customers

Norristown, Pa. (April 28, 2022) – Pennsylvania American Water today announced construction to replace almost half a mile of water main between two projects in Montgomery County to improve reliability for customers, reduce service disruptions, and increase water flows for firefighting. The cost of these system improvements, which replace main dating back to the 1940s, total $1,100,000.

Recently, Pennsylvania American Water contractors began replacing 1,800 feet of aging 6-inch cement pipe with new 8-inch ductile iron pipe and new copper water supply services for customers on South 4th Avenue between Gay Street and Vaughn Road and Vaugh Road between South 4th Avenue and Thomas Drive in Upper Providence Township.

Starting on May 15, work will begin to replace 600 feet of aging 4-inch cast iron pipe with new 6-inch ductile iron pipe and new copper water supply services for customers on Summer Street between North 3rd Avenue and North 4th Avenue in Royersford Borough.

Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction. Both projects will be completed by the end of August and final paving of the roadways is planned for completion this fall.

During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and/or lower than normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences. For more information, contact Pennsylvania American Water’s customer service center at 1-800-565-7292.

These infrastructure upgrade projects are not only an important investment in public health and safety, but they also help support the economic health of the communities served by Pennsylvania American Water. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Through its continued investments, Pennsylvania American Water’s 2021 and 2022 infrastructure upgrade projects will support more than 3,700 jobs each year.
