New Jersey American Water begins construction on a new sewer line in Lakewood Township

VOORHEES, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--New Jersey American Water broke ground today on the installation of a new 2,800-foot wastewater pipeline along Spruce Street and Vine Avenue in Lakewood Township. The 18-inch sewer line is being constructed to support large-scale community developments being built by a partnership among Lakewood Township, NJ Hand, Inc., Homes for All, Inc./STEPS, and Lakewood Affordable Housing.

“Lakewood is growing rapidly and with that growth is a need for wastewater infrastructure,” said David Baker, president of New Jersey American Water. “New Jersey American Water is proud to be a partner and a solutions provider in Lakewood’s prosperity. We look forward to serving the township and the developers in what will be a successful venture.”

Steve Reinman, executive director of economic development for the Township of Lakewood, added, “The construction of this sewer line provides the infrastructure for the future growth to our township and adds vitality to a largely unbuilt area.”

The sewer pipeline will be constructed in three phases. The first phase will replace 800 feet of 8-inch sewer main with the new 18-inch sewer main along Spruce Street, between Marc Drive and Vine Avenue. The second phase will replace 1,100 feet of 12-inch sewer main with 18-inch sewer main along Vine Avenue, between Spruce Street and Tower Street. The third phase will replace 900 feet of 12-inch sewer main with 18-inch sewer main along Vine Avenue, between Towers Street and Oak Street.

Weather permitting, the project should be completed at the end of July 2012 with final paving in the fall of 2012. Once installation is complete, the organizations will be able to complete the construction on the new homes.
