Illinois American Water asking Motorists to Use Caution at Intersection of Liberty and Adams; Water Main Repairs Underway
Peoria, Ill. (Oct. 5, 2023) – Illinois American Water crews worked throughout the night and continue repair work after a water main break in downtown Peoria. Water service to 22 buildings is impacted.
In order to complete this work safely, Illinois American Water closed the intersection of Liberty St and SW Adams St. Motorists will be routed around the closure. Motorists should use caution when driving in the area and obey traffic signs, detour routes and flaggers. If possible, motorists should avoid the area. Once repairs are complete and it is safe to do so, the intersection will be reopened.
When water service is restored, these customers will be under a boil water order. Impacted customers have been notified about the need to bring their water to a rolling boil for 5 minutes prior to use for drinking or cooking. Water is OK for bathing, laundry and other common uses. Impacted customers will be notified when the boil order has been lifted after tests confirm water meets all regulated quality standards.
Illinois America Water is asking for patience as the local water team completes this complex work as safely and as quickly as possible.
